Barcelona confirm Marcos Alonso exit
Barcelona have confirmed left-back Marcos Alonso is leaving the club on the expiration of his contract.
Alonso moved to Barcelona on a free transfer from Chelsea in the summer of 2022 and went on to play 45 times, scoring three goals.
The defender picked up a La Liga and Spanish Super Cup title with Barca but now moves on after his contract was not renewed.
Here’s Barcelona’s statement:
“Marcos Alonso is not to continue with FC Barcelona, as the Spanish defender’s contract ends on June 30.
“FC Barcelona would like to place on record their appreciation for his commitment and dedication, and wish him all the best and every success in the future.”
It’s not clear yet where Alonso will choose to continue his career, although the 33-year-old defender has been linked with a move to La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid.
