CELINE DION SHARES A LOOK AT PAINFUL BODY SPASM

In the clip of I Am Celine Dion, the emotional singer gives her fans a real, raw, and painful look at her health struggle, including a muscle spasm caught on camera.

The 56-year-old lays on a gurney while her body violently shakes, with silent tears flowing down her face.

According to director Irene Taylor, Celine Dion insisted that the footage be included in the documentary.

Taylor told Variety: “The very first thing she said was, ‘I think this film can help me’. And then she said, ‘And I don’t want you to cut out that scene, and don’t cut it down.’”

In a trailer shared last month,  the six-time winning Grammy awardee admitted that she missed performing live, which she ceased in late 2022.

She continued: “It’s not hard to do a show, it’s hard to cancel a show.

“I’m working hard every day, but I have to admit, it’s been a struggle. I miss it so much, the people, I miss them.”

She touchingly added: “If I can’t run, I’ll walk. If I can’t walk, I’ll crawl. But I won’t stop.”

‘I HAVEN’T BEAT THE DISEASE’

Speaking to Vogue France in April, Celine Dion revealed that she was fighting back against SPS.

She said: “I haven’t beat the disease, as it’s still within me and always will be.

“Five days a week, I undergo athletic, physical, and vocal therapy. I work on my toes, my knees, my calves, my fingers, my singing, my voice.”

During the interview, Celine claimed that she first experienced symptoms of SPS as early as 2008.

One of the biggest signs was her voice beginning to spasm during singing. Another was muscle stiffness, which she experienced during her Las Vegas residency, which ended in 2019.

WHAT IS STIFF PERSON SYNDROME?

According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders, SPS is a rare, progressive neurological disease. It is also incurable.

As the name suggests, the condition causes stiffening of the torso, arms, and legs. It is twice as likely to affect women as men and is linked to auto-immune conditions like type I diabetes, thyroiditis, vitiligo, and anemia.

While there is no cure for the disease, medication like muscle relaxants and others can help alleviate the symptoms.
