Electricity interruption scheduled for Thursday in eThekwini

On Thursday, 15 February, from 8:00 until approximately 16:00, eThekwini residents should brace for a temporary interruption in electricity supply.

The interruption is essential as eThekwini Electricity proceeds with phase 2 of its infrastructure upgrade plan. This plan aims to enhance the reliability of the Northern electrical network.

eThekwini completes phase 1 replacement

“Phase 1 of the replacement plan was successfully completed on the 26 January, eThekwini Electricity needs to continue with phase 2 to replace the damaged 11kV switchgear panels at Parkhill substation to improve the security of supply to the Northern electrical network, ” said the eThekwini Municipality.

This crucial step aims to enhance the security of supply to the affected areas. It requires a temporary halt in electricity transmission from the substation.

The electricity interruption will affect the following areas

Areas expected to experience the outage include Athlone East, Glen Anil West, Greenwood Park, Kenville East, Melk Houte, Parkhill, Parkhill Industrial, Prospect Hall, Red Hill, Red Hill Industrial, Riverhorse Valley, and Riverhorse Valley West.

Customers previously impacted by the outage on 26 January are likely to experience a similar disruption once again.

During the scheduled outage, it is imperative for the public to exercise caution and treat all electrical installations as live.
