Sorry Chiefs fans, Pitso Mosimane to Naturena is a ‘no go’

Amakhosi fans are desperately hoping that Pitso Mosimane could be a viable candidate to come in as head coach considering he is now unattached after leaving United Arab Emirates side Al Wahda, while Chiefs are looking for someone to take over permanently from Cavin Johnson.

However, during an exclusive press conference with the South African Football Journalist Association (SAFJA), Mosimane explained why there was a far stronger chance of returning to coach a national team in Africa, and not a club.

“There might be interest back at home and also maybe national teams, it will be nice also but it depends on which one and it depends on the reason also,” Mosimane said.

“It’s Cup of Nations [Africa Cup of Nations] in January, so maybe short-term but even after January the World Cup Qualifiers keep going on. Maybe that can also interest me but it has to be the right thing.

“With the national teams, I don’t have a problem to be back in the continent but club wise in the continent it’s not gonna be that easy,” Mosimane said.

Mosimane the man for the Chiefs?

“We need to know what’s the team like, what do they want, what do they expect us to do and what’s the vision,” Mosimane told SAFJA.

“Then we start to say ‘ok, that’s interesting. It’s a good project’. The vision of the team also is important. It’s not about me sending my CV to clubs and all that. Yes, I’m not boasting [but] we can get employed next week, if we want. It’s not all about that.

“I also just want to spend Christmas at home (laughs). Let me see my children, have Christmas, let me have food at home…. I think the best time for to really, really go back to work is maybe after that space, when I’ve seen my family. My children are all around, schools are closed.

“To move now it must be a very, very big urgency. It must be worth that I must cancel the holiday with my children and spend Christmas away from home.”

What does Pitso think of Johnson?

Mosimane was asked whether he thinks Johnson came at the right time to Naturena.

“I think it’s an unfair question or comment about Coach Cavin Johnson because Coach Cavin Johnson is the Head of Youth at Kaizer Chiefs,” he stated.

“He’s just filling in there and we all know he is filling in and I think he said it also himself. So we can’t talk about his role as a senior coach, when he is the Head of Youth, because, probably, that’s what he wants.

“So I’m not sure. I can’t answer on his behalf. I think you need to ask him after his work with me and got all there, does he think what he has learned with us playing Bayern, playing Palmeiras and all those teams, is it good enough to make him succeed?”
