5,800 schools shift to alternative modes of learning amid hot weather

MANILA, Philippines: More than 5,800 schools in 16 regions declared a shift towards alternative delivery modes due to high heat temperatures in their localities, according to the Department of Education (DepEd).

Data provided by the DepEd Central Office showed that 5,844 schools have shifted from in-person classes to alternative delivery in all regions except Caraga.

Of the number, Central Luzon had the most number with 1124 schools, followed by Central Visayas with 792 schools, Socsksargen (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and Gen. Santos City) with 676, Bicol with 634, Zamboanga Region with 610 and Western Visayas with 536.

In the National Capital Region (NCR), 306 schools announced a shift from in-person classes to alternative delivery modes.

The DepEd declared that it was now leaving to school heads the discretion to shift to alternative delivery modes in cases of high temperatures.
