‘you are not a wrestler, andre russell…’: ex-ind batter highlights key area of concern for yashasvi jaiswal

Ahead of the IPL 2024, cricket pundits backed Yashasvi Jaiswal to bag the Orange Cap, however, the southpaw has looked off-colour so far. Jaiswal has accumulated a mere 121 runs in seven games. His poor performance has raised doubts about his place in the T20 World Cup squad. Jaiswal came into IPL on the back of a stunning Test series against England where he scored over 700 runs, including two double hundreds, but he hasn’t quite looked the same player in the T20 extravaganza.

Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra expressed concerns about Yashasvi Jaiswal’s approach in IPL 2024, saying that he is trying to butcher every ball, adding that Kumar Sangakkara and Rohit Sharma should talk to him as this is not his natural game.

“I am getting slightly worried about Yashasvi because Yashasvi didn’t used to play like this. He is trying to murder every ball. You are a very good player, and you are good because you believe in timing. You are not a wrestler and you are not Andre Russell. Your playing style is very different,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

“Since I like this kid a lot, I want Kumar Sangakkara to talk to him, or else Rohit Sharma should pick up the phone and talk to him and say – ‘You have to go to the T20 World Cup but this form is not required, play a little cautiously’. He hit a six and a four, and then tried another big shot and got out,” the former India opener added.

While Jaiswal has failed to live up to the expectations, Riyan Parag has repaid the years of faith Royals showed in his abilities. Parag has been on fire in IPL 2024, scoring 318 runs in seven games, including three fifties. The runs have come while batting at No.4. Whenever Rajasthan Royals were in trouble, Parag came and bailed the team out of trouble to put the side on top.

Rajasthan Royals pulled off the joint-highest successful run chase in IPL history as they hunted KKR’s 224 at Eden Gardens. After losing Jaiswal for 19, Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag (34) revived the chase with brisk cameos. RR collapsed after Parag’s wicket and were reduced to 121-6 before Jos Buttler and Rovman Powell (26) added 57 runs for the seventh wicket to bring RR back into the game.

Meanwhile, Jos Buttler scored a breathtaking 107 in 60 balls and helped RR chase the target in the 20th over, with two wickets in hand. Earlier, maiden century by Sunil Narine helped KKR post 223-6.
