Legendary Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is playing in the IPL 2024 for the Rajasthan Royals, where he is teammates with young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who also shared the dressing room with him during the five-match Test series between India and England earlier this year. In the five Tests, Jaiswal was on fire with the bat and scored 712 runs to win the Player of the Series award. While Jaiswal made a big name for himself in the series with his batting at the top, his fielding, along with that of Shubman Gill’s, also caught everyone’s attention.
During the Test series, a stump-mic conversation by Indian skipper Rohit Sharma went viral, in which he was heard asking players not to roam in the garden. He even uploaded a picture of him with Jaiswal, Gill, Dhruv Jurel, and Sarfaraz Khan after the conclusion of the series and captioned it, “Garden mein ghoomne wale bande.” But no one really knew who exactly he was talking about.
But during an event organised in Delhi on Saturday, Ashwin finally ended the suspense and revealed Jaiswal and Gill are “garden mein ghoomne wale bande.” During a conversation with Gaurav Kapur, when Jaiswal revealed that Ashwin gets angry sometimes, the senior spinner replied by saying, “Ye Test matches mei short leg pe khada rehta hai yaar. Maine isko gusse mei bola ek baar ki Yash agar teri jagah ek patthar rakh diya jaye naa vo bhi 2-3 ball rok dega. Rohit aise he nahi likha hai garden mein ghoomne wale log, ye sach mei garden mei ghoomne wale log he hai.”

“We were playing the Hyderabad Test or the next one maybe, I don’t remember. The Test match was poised; ball maintenance ek cheej hoti hai; whenever you shine the ball, the shiny side is supposed to be kept dry. So, the ball is passed through Yashasvi; pura aisa thook (saliva) laga ke aisa dono hath se pakada hai, and he will pass it on to Shubman Gill. That guy will be catching the ball and tossing it (hand gestures). Yaar sweat lagayega toh ball reverse nahi hoga. But yes, all this will come with experience,” Ashwin added.
Ashwin is in Delhi these days to take part in RR’s 11th league stage match of IPL 2024, which is scheduled to take place at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday (May 7). If RR manages to get the better of DC, it will confirm its place in the IPL 2024 playoffs.
