Arun Dhumal, the chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL), has provided a huge update on the T20 league. The T20 league is set to coincide with the 2024 General Elections once again. Despite this, the BCCI is confident that the tournament will be completely played in India. Speaking to IANS, Arun said that they are in talks with the Indian governemtn and the agencies over IPL’s venue.

“We will work with the Indian government, agencies to make sure that the league takes place in India. We are waiting for the schedule of the general election to be announced and then we will plan accordingly…like which state will host what game at the time of election will be planned that way,” the IPL chairman told IANS.

“It (IPL) will most likely start from March end… and general elections are in April, so we will work it out with the help of the government.”

In 2009, the tournament was played in South Africa due to General Elections. In 2014, the first of the season was played in UAE due to elections. The complete IPL 2019 season was played in Indies despite the elctions. Once again, the T20 league looks all but set to stay in India.

In 2020, the BCCI was forced to take the league to UAE due to COVID-19. In 2021, the second half of the IPL was also played in UAE due to the same reason. The BCCI also staged the T20 World Cup there.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will enter the tournament as defending champions and will be pat of the opening game. The MS Dhoni-led side defeated Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat Titans (gt) in the final.

The leadup to IPL 2024 saw the biggest trade in the league’s history as Hardik left GT and returned to Mumbai Indians. He replaced Rohit Sharma as captain and will lead MI for the first time in the upcoming season.
