aston villa suffer boubacar kamara set-back in premier league clash with man utd

Boubacar Kamara of Aston Villa is substituted off following an injury during the Premier League match between Aston Villa and Manchester United at Villa Park

Aston Villa midfielder Boubacar Kamara was forced off in the second half of Sunday’s Premier League match with Manchester United.

The 24-year-old had been playing well during a game in which Villa trailed at the time after Rasmus Hojlund’s first half opener.

However, as Villa began to assert control on the match, in the 65th minute the France international appeared to hurt himself as he closed down United midfielder Casemiro. Kamara slid past the Brazilian and his right knee wobbled as he fell to the turf.

Kamara was treated by physios before walking gingerly to the touchline where he was replaced by Moussa Diaby. Once on the sideline he bent double with his hand on the side of his leg and appeared to be in discomfort.

That feeling will have quickly eased when Douglas Luiz struck an equaliser just a couple of minutes later.

Kamara had recently returned to the starting line-up after a three match ban received in the angry denouement of the 2-1 win at Brentford.

The former Marseille man has been a key player for Villa this season, starting every Premier League game for which he has been available and proving an able foil for Luiz. Kamara came through the Marseille youth set up to play 170 times for the senior side. He has also won five caps for his country and joined Villa in May 2022.

Villa have limited options in the deeper lying midfield roles, and few quite as well-suited as Luiz and Kamara. The departure of Leander Dendoncker has thrust Tim Iroegbunam up the pecking order.
