Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa’s agent has confirmed talks with FCSB over a move to Romania but Sundowns are also lurking.
Orlando Pirates weighing up Mabasa sale
27-year-old striker Tshegofatso Mabasa has been flying for the Buccaneers after a loan spell at Swallows. He’s got eight goals in 10 appearances across all competitions since his return across Soweto. Overall in the league, he’s got 11 goals and is in the thick of the Golden Boot race alongside Lucas Ribeiro Costa (11 goals) and Khanyisa Mayo (10). Naturally, this form has attracted some admirers. Mabasa’s agent Gary Cassisa has revealed interest in his client, including a failed move to Sundowns in January. Cassica says Sundowns face stiff competition from Romanian giants FCSB.
“At this point, his decision has to be considerate of his future as a player considering his age. Sundowns have the financial muscles to get him. But a chance at playing in the Champions League is not easy to resist.”
“FSCB want him. They are on top in the Super Liga and are likely to be playing in the UEFA Champions League. At the moment, I’m also talking to other clubs in Europe. But the idea is to help him keep his calm until the season is over,” he added.

Keeper turnonver at Pirates
At the other end ofthe pitch, Pirates have big decisions to makew regarding a pair of exprienced goalkeepers. Ghanaian Richard Ofori and 38-year-old Siyabonga Mpontshane are both out of contract in June and are expected to leave the Buccaneers this winter, according to The Citizen. Mpontshane will be retiring after a nine-year stint with the club after his move from the now-defunct Platinum Stars in 2015. Meanwhile, The Sea Robbers have a one-year option on Ofori’s current deal. The 30-year-old has yet to appear in the league this term, with Sipho Chaine and Melusi Buthelezi the firm favourites to hold the gloves.
