Who will replace retired John Sterling as Yankees radio broadcaster?

Longtime New York Yankees radio broadcaster John Sterling announced his retirement this week and will be honored in a ceremony Saturday.

Sterling is announcing his retirement after 36 years as the voice of the Yankees. His iconic calls will be missed almost immediately, and his name is synonymous with some of the biggest moments in Yankees history from the last three decades.

But with Sterling calling it on what has been a Hall-of-Fame career, the Yankees will need to find his replacement.

Who will replace John Sterling as Yankees radio broadcaster?

The Yankees have yet to announce who the full-time replacement for Sterling will be following his retirement, but there will be a platoon of sorts handling the play-by-play duties in the booth alongside Suzyn Waldman.

For now, the duo of Justin Shackil and Emmanuel Berbari will handle the play-by-play duties for the Yankees radio broadcast. A decision on who will be the full-time replacement for Sterling is expected to come after the season.

The search of a replacement for the legendary Sterling will be a nationwide task, according to a report from The Athletic.

Shackil, 37, is in his second season as the host of the postgame show as well as his role as the primary play-by-play substitute on the Yankees’ WFAN radio broadcasts.

Berbari, 24, has broadcasted games for WFAN with the High-A Hudson Valley Renegades affiliate team for two seasons in 2022 and 2023.

It will be interesting if Waldman continues to do the color commentary with a new partner after the season as well. But no reports on her status have been revealed yet.
