Dr Mahathir Mohamad sued Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim last year for RM150 million over claims he had enriched himself and his family members.
PETALING JAYA: Dr Mahathir Mohamad says no evidence has been furnished to back up claims that he had accumulated billions of ringgit as alleged by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.
In denying the claim, the former prime minister said it had been a year since he had sued Anwar over the allegation.
“But till now, Anwar has yet to show any proof. This means I am not guilty,” he said in a statement.
Last year, Mahathir filed a RM150 million libel suit against Anwar, alleging that the latter had accused him of enriching himself and his family members and that he was a racist.
Mahathir is seeking RM50 million in general damages and another RM100 million in exemplary damages.
Today, Mahathir also called on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission to furnish any evidence it had on an offence he allegedly committed.
Mahathir said a notice by the anti-graft agency issued to his son Mirzan claimed that the former prime minister had committed an offence under Section 23 of the MACC Act.
The section deals with abuse of power.
