Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 2 may have a good while left to run, but there are already rumblings about Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3 and its features.

The meatiest rumour is Season 3 will have an apocalypse theme, which could naturally mean a big change to the game world — not just how it looks, but how much of it remains.

There are still weeks of Greek mythology-drenched Fornite to be had. But if you’re keen to know what’s up next, here are all the details we know.

When does Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3 start?

Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3 is expected to begin on May 24. We already know Season 2 will end on May 24 and the only reason the next won’t arrive on the same day is if there is significant downtime in the transition period.

It ends at 6pm on May 24, UK time. If the downtime is more than six hours, we’re looking at a May 25 start for Season 3. It’s entirely possible.

What is the Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3 theme?

A Fortnite leaker X (formerly Twitter) account claims Season 3 may have an apocalypse theme.

There’s already a clear way to weave this into the game’s narrative. Season 2 is themed around Greek gods. It wouldn’t be hard for an epic battle between those deities to leave the Fornite map a scarred mess.

“The Oracle also speaks of “Dark Skies” & “Choking Dust” in the future,” says the Fortnite leaker on X.

The Oracle was introduced in Season 2 as someone players can talk to through the game’s scrying pools. It gives players quests, saying they must be completed “before the sky turns black”.

Some have even suggested the apocalypse theme could establish a wasteland verdant enough for a Fortnite X Fallout collaboration, as leaker ShiinaBR suggested.

Fortnite’s many collaborations don’t frequently dip into pure gaming subjects. However, previous examples include Alan Wake, The Witcher and The Elder Scrolls, from the same Bethesda gaming stable as Fallout.

There’s reason to dip in soon too. Amazon’s Fallout TV adaptation launched on April 11 and a big next-gen console update of Fallout 4 is arriving on April 25. Things are happening in the world of Fallout.

A May Fortnite tie-in would then, if anything, be a bit late, but could introduce a whole new generation to the series. The last major installment of the Fallout game series was 2018’s Fallout 76.

We don’t expect to see Fallout 5 for years (and years) but the release of the TV show has seen a spike in interest for the old games, particularly Fallout 4 and Fallout 76, according to SteamDb.

We’ll be on the lookout for more Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3 news until its arrival.
