WhatsApp now lets you create and share your own stickers without having to leave the app - here's how

Until now, users have had to use third-party apps to create their own stickersNow, WhatsApp has added the ability to create them within its app

From the ‘change my mind man’ to the ‘success kid’, memes have been a staple feature of many of our messages for years.

Now, you can create your own thanks to WhatsApp’s latest update.

The messaging app has added the ability to create, edit and share your own stickers, without having to leave the app.

‘For adding some fun to your chats, bringing to life a group joke, or sending the right meme for the moment, you can now quickly and creatively turn your own photos into stickers,’ WhatsApp said.

Here’s how to try the fun new feature yourself.

WhatsApp first introduced Stickers back in 2018, initially launching its own sticker packs before adding the ability to upload third-party sticker packs.

However, until now, to create their own stickers, users have had to rely on third party apps.

Now, WhatsApp is removing the middle man, with the ability to create stickers directly within the app.

‘You can now create stickers within the app, rather than having to drag-and-drop from your image gallery, or use unofficial third party apps, all while benefiting from the security of WhatsApp’s end-to-end-encryption,’ the Meta-owned app explained in a blog post.

To create a sticker from an image, simply open the WhatsApp app on your iPhone, and open the conversation where you’d like to send the sticker.

Open your sticker tray by selecting the sticker icon to the right of the text box.

Select ‘create sticker’, and choose an image from your photo gallery.

At this point, you’ll be given the opportunity to customise your sticker, with several editing tools available, including cropping, text, drawing, and the ability to overlay other stickers.

When you’re happy with your creation, tap Send.

‘Once sent, the sticker is automatically saved in the sticker tray so you can resend whenever you like,’ WhatsApp said.

If you’re not sold on your sticker, you’ll be happy to hear that you can edit it before sending it on.

To edit an exisiting sticker, open your sticker tray again, and long press the sticker you wish to edit.

Select ‘edit sticker’ and you’ll be given the chance to amend it, before sending it on once again.

Sticker maker is already available on WhatsApp Web and is rolling out on iOS 17+ over the coming days.

While people using older iOS versions will be able to edit existing stickers, they won’t currently be able to create new ones.

MailOnline has contacted WhatsApp for information on when the tool will be available on Android.
