Dehydration presents significant risks and complications for the elderly. With age, the body’s ability to conserve water and detect thirst diminishes, making seniors more susceptible to the effects of dehydration. These consequences include heat-related illnesses such as heatstroke, kidney problems like stones or infections, cognitive impairment leading to confusion and falls, low blood pressure with dizziness, exacerbation of chronic conditions, and in severe cases, hospitalization for fluid replacement. Careful attention to hydration is essential to prevent these complications and maintain the well-being of elderly individuals.
