Prince Harry's eight-word response to fans as he walked away from cheering crowds

Prince Harry smiled as he shook hands with fans last night before uttering an eight-word response and making an abrupt exit.

The Duke of Sussex was in London to attend a service of thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral to mark the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games. After the event, Harry met with fans outside as they shouted: “We love you Harry”.

Hundreds of people had lined the street to try and catch a glimpse of the Prince. Harry was seen chatting with fans before being escorted to his car and lip reader Jeremy Freeman has now revealed what Harry said as he walked away from the crowd.

Turning to his car, Jeremy revealed Harry said: “Ok thank you, bye bye, thank you guys.” Elsewhere on the walkabout, Harry said: “Hi…hi…hi there…nice to meet you…great to see you…”

When someone tried to engage in a conversation with Harry, he replied: “Pardon…oh really.” Then, trying to shake hands with a fan, Harry said: “Hey…hey… Here we go,” having finally managed to reach.

Harry’s warm reception at his walkabout comes after the Royal Family decided not to turn up to the Invictus Games event at St Paul’s. Instead, King Charles was joined by a huge contingent of royals in a show of unity at this afternoon’s Buckingham Palace garden party. The party took place just two miles away from St Paul’s.

Meghan Markle was also absent from the event as she decided not to join her husband for his return trip to the UK. However, Harry wasn’t alone at the service.

Family members who did join were his uncle Earl Charles Spencer and his aunt Lady Jane Fellowes, both siblings of the late Princess Diana. Harry’s cousin Louis Spencer, the Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s wife Akshata Murty and his lawyer David Sherbourne also attended. Former Army officer Mark Dyer, who has acted as a “second dad” to Harry, was at the service as well.
