Woolworths has ‘some questions to answer’ for role in ‘cost of living crisis’: Jane Hume

Shadow Finance Minister Jane Hume believes Woolworths has “some questions to answer” about their role in the “cost-of-living crisis”.

Woolworths Chief Executive Brad Banducci has announced he will leave the company in September.

“I think what’s most important is the prominence that not just Woolworths, but Coles, have experienced in the media lately, particularly as part of this cost-of-living crisis and what their role is,” Ms Hume told Sky News Australia.

“We’ve had both Coles and Woolworths, and indeed Aldi and IGA, speak to the cost-of-living committee over the last 18 months and give evidence as to what it is that they’ve seen in terms of consumer behaviour, but also what their responses have been.

“Each one of those supermarket giants has responded in a different way.

“Certainly, Woolworths has had some questions to answer quite recently.”
