Tenom substitute teacher pleads guilty to using fake MyKad for 29 years

KOTA KINABALU: A teacher in Tenom district has pleaded guilty to using a fake identity card for the past 29 years.

He was jailed 10 months and fined RM6,000 for the offence, after making his plea before Magistrate Nur Asyraf bin Zolhani at the Keningau Magistrate’s court, Thursday (Feb 22).

Ridal Abdul Kadir, 54, who holds a temporary residence pass, was accused of using a fake identification card which enabled him to apply as a substitute teacher at SMK Kemabong, Tenom, in 1994.

He had later been appointed as a staff of SMK Kemabong, with the fake identification card he had.

According to the facts of the case, Ridal had a temporary identity card which was issued by the National Registration Department, with his status as a temporary resident.

He had later obtained a fake identity card which stated him as a Malaysian citizen.

The NRD conducted an inspection on his documents at the SMK Kemabong workers’ quarters parking lot at 11.30am, Jan 29, after receiving a complaint about the matter.

Ridal was taken into custody for further investigations after that.

During his court case, he was slapped with a 10-month jail term from his date of arrest with a RM6,000 fine, which he later paid.

During mitigation, defence counsel Korventt Wheezar applied for a lenient sentence for Ridal, and an affordable fine for the accused, seeing that he admitted to the mistake and was remorseful.
