WA transport workers protest at Aldi
Putting the brakes on negligence. Demanding safer conditions. This is why we have to. Transport workers marching in Fremantle calling on budget supermarket giant Audi to make a change. They’re being pushed to do deadlines that are just way too tight for safe operations. When you are pressured in the transport industry, it is dangerous. Truck drivers want to see standards improved, calling for a national Rd. Transport Enterprise agreement and a supply chain Safety charter, which Coles and Woolworths have in place for their drivers. Those truckies don’t have transport conditions that ensure that they are safe. That is outrageous. Audi says it has a safety charter in place, which it’s tried on numerous occasions to have productive conversations with the Transport Workers Union about, but claims the TWU has refused to engage with Audi. 235 people died in truck crashes on Australian roads last year. Workers say Audi’s conditions are putting more lives. Risk. Every Rd. user is put at risk whilst Audi refuses to turn around and reach a proper agreement. Sarah Smith, 9 News.
