Voting in Congress’ favour holds little value, as winning candidates will join BJP: Himanta

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took a dig at the Congress, asserting that voting in their favour holds little value, as winning candidates often switch allegiance to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Addressing a gathering of party workers at the BJP office in Karimganj district in Southern Assam to kickstart his election campaign, Sarma highlighted the trend of candidates defecting from Congress to BJP post-elections.

“Today, the real question isn’t whether Congress candidates will stay loyal to their party. The reality is, hardly anyone wishes to remain in Congress; they all aspire to join the BJP. If, this time, I manage to convince nearly all Congress candidates to join the BJP after the elections, what’s the point in voting for Congress? This underscores the trust people have in our party. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is like the Sun, and we are like the moon,” remarked Sarma.

The election campaign in Assam has gained momentum after the announcement of election dates. The voting for 14 Lok Sabha seats in the state will take place in three phases on April 19, 26 and May 7.
