PETALING JAYA: The death of Tan Sri Joseph Kurup is a great loss to the people, says Datuk Seri Dr Seri Wee Ka Siong.
“My heartfelt condolences to the family members of Tan Sri Joseph Kurup, a prominent figure to the people of Sabah, who was also the former president of Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS).
His contributions as the leader of the Barisan Nasional component party had been significant and will be deeply missed,” wrote the MCA president in a Facebook post on Wednesday (April 17).
He added that the veteran politician held high positions at both state and federal levels, including deputy minister positions for two portfolios.
“His departure is a great loss to the people and the country. May his soul rest in peace,” wrote the Ayer Hitam MP.
Kurup passed away on Wednesday due to heart complications. He was 80 years old.
Former PBRS secretary-general Datuk Johnson Tee confirmed that Kurup passed away at the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur at 7pm.
