Magnitude 4.5 quake jolts Davao Occidental
MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 4.5 earthquake rocked Davao Occidental before dawn yesterday, a day after two strong temblors hit Agusan del Sur, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
Phivolcs said the quake occurred at 1:03 a.m. and its epicenter was located 38 kilometers south of Jose Abad Santos town.
State seismologists said the quake, which was tectonic in origin, was not expected to generate aftershocks or cause damage to property.
A day earlier, quakes of magnitudes 5.8 and 5.2 struck Agusan del Sur.
Both temblors occurred within the Esperanza segment of the Philippine fault.
On the afternoon of same day, Northern Samar in the Visayas was jolted by a magnitude 4.7 quake.
The temblor occurred at 5:21 p.m. and its epicenter was located 45 kilometers north of Laoang town.
It was felt at Intensities 3, 2 and 1 in Palapag, Rosario and Mapanas towns, respectively.
