Bayern Munich have been dealt a blow ahead of the second leg of their Champions League quarter final against Arsenal as Kingsley Coman is ruled out through injury.

Coman was forced off after 50 minutes in Bayern’s 2-0 win over Koln in the Bundesliga on Saturday and was taken to hospital for assessment on his thigh injury.

‘The injury of Kingsley is extremely bitter with him starting a game today after a very long time,’ Thomas Tuchel said after Bayern’s win.

‘It looked extremely painful on TV and it certainly won’t be enough for Wednesday.

‘In quarter final you want to have the choice options. Maybe you need to play 120 minutes. It’s a big blow for us.’

Meanwhile, Bayern’s sporting director, Christoph Freund, said: ‘He will undergo further tests. It’s not looking good.’

When asked how long he expects Coman to be sidelined, Freund replied: ‘We hope not for several months.’

However, Freund is more confident that both Manuel Neuer and Leroy Sane, who were left out of Bayern’s win against Koln, will return for the Champions League clash with Arsenal at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday evening.

‘I’m confident they can be on the pitch,’ Freund said.

Speaking on the availability of Sane and Neuer, Tuchel added: ‘We hope Leroy Sane will be available on Wednesday. We didn’t want to take any risks today.

‘Manuel Neuer could’ve played today, but we didn’t want to take risks either. At this decisive phase of the season, you want to have a full squad and a competitive spirit, but that has really been hindered with our injury situation.’
