MANILA, Philippines: The UST Golden Tigresses spoiled Angel Canino’s return as they topped the De La Salle Lady Spikers, 22-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-15, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Saturday, April 27 to clinch the second seed that merits the last Final Four twice-to-beat incentive.
Angge Poyos pumped 22 points to lead UST which uncorked a massive 18-6 run to subdue the defending champ La Salle and rose to 12-2 with 34 points.
The NU Lady Bulldogs are the no. 1 seed team with a 12-2 record laced with 36 points as they will face the fourth seed FEU Lady Tamaraws who sport a 9-4 record.
Jonna Perdido racked up 19 points for the Golden Tigresses who will face the third seed, 11-3 Lady Spikers in the semis, needing just one victory to advance to the Finals.
Canino, the reigning MVP who missed La Salle’s past five games due to a right arm injury, logged 13 points in the first game the virtual best-of-3 series between UST and La Salle.
