WHILE Malaysians may feel squeezed by gridlock in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, a sigh of relief might be warranted.

TomTom’s 13th Traffic Index reveals that, while Malaysia has congestion issues, its major cities don’t crack the top 30 most congested globally.

The report, analysing traffic in 387 cities across 55 countries, crowned London king of congestion, with drivers spending an agonising 37 minutes navigating just 10 kilometres during peak hours.

Dublin (Ireland), Toronto (Canada), and Milan (Italy) follow closely behind.

The list also featured cities in India, the Philippines, Indonesia, Japan, Taiwan, and France, highlighting a broader struggle with traffic woes.

However, for Malaysians, a glimmer of hope emerges.

Kuala Lumpur clocked in 169th on the congestion list, which translates to about 16 minutes to traverse 10 kilometres.

While not ideal, it paled in comparison to the top contenders.

On the other end of the spectrum, Oklahoma City in the US claims the dubious title of “least congested” with a breezy 8-minute commute for that same 10-kilometre stretch. – AWANI
