Ante 1.256 espectadores en Concepción, donde tuvo que llegar para ejercer su localía, Unión La Calera pudo sortear la oposición de un gigante del fútbol sudamericano, Cruzeiro, ante el cual empató sin goles por la tercera fecha de la Copa Sudamericana.

Los brasileños apenas demoraron 15 segundos en generar peligro sobre la portería del elenco cementero en el Ester Roa Rebolledo, pero, lejos de amilanarse, el elenco nacional fue provocando algunas opciones de gol. De todas formas, antes de los 15 minutos de partido, Rafael Elías tuvo dos disparos claros sin éxito para el cuadro de Belo Horizonte.

Matías Cavalleri reaccionó para Unión La Calera con un remate de media distancia que exigió la estirada de Anderson, mismo expediente con el que intentó Esteban Matus en los descuentos. Todo mientras los cementeros, con línea de cinco en defensa, lograron evitar cualquier acercamiento medianamente peligoroso hasta asegurar el 0-0 en el marcador.

Con esta igualdad, el elenco calerano llegó a 4 puntos, ubicándose segundo, por diferencia de goles, en el grupo B de la Copa Sudamericana, sacándole uno de ventaja a Cruzeiro, situación que los mantiene con chances de clasificarse a los octavos de final del torneo continental.
