Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green.

Few players in NBA history have impacted a game without scoring as much as Draymond Green. The Warriors star once again did all the little things in his team’s 114-109 loss to the Pelicans on Friday night where his reluctance to shoot the ball earned him a place in the record books.

Green became the first player in NBA history to register a double-double without taking a single shot, per StatMuse. The defensive ace finished with 12 rebounds, 11 assists, a steal and a block, but did not attempt a solitary field goal or free throw in his 35 minutes and 57 seconds on the court.

The stat line was a reminder of Green being the ultimate Swiss Army knife player whose value to a team can’t be gauged by the box score.

For example, when the Warriors were down 14 at the half on Friday, Green fueled the home team’s comeback with back-to-back defensive plays in the third quarter to go with three assists in a quick span.

With 8:44 left in the third, Green blocked Jonas Valanciunas’s shot and led a fast break that cut the Warriors’ deficit by nine. His brilliance was on full display.

Although Green’s efforts couldn’t propel Golden State to victory, head coach Steve Kerr had nothing but positive things to say about his versatile forward.

The Warriors close their season with a home game against the Jazz on Sunday. They could potentially move to the No. 8 seed if the Lakers lose to the Pelicans in the other crucial season-finale game.

By climbing to eight, the Warriors would significantly improve their chances of making the playoffs.
