‘Resolve issues in Sepang before they become complaints’

SEPANG municipal councillors will receive RM80,000 yearly to conduct programmes in their areas, said MPSepang president Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain.

He hoped they would engage with the people in their zones to better understand their needs.

“You need to constantly be on the ground,” he told the new councillors during the swearing-in ceremony.

“I want a transformation in our work culture. I do not want complaints so we have to be proactive.

“To achieve that, councillors, department directors and staff must meet the people often, get their feedback and act on matters raised.”

Abd Hamid said councillors should not interfere with administration matters.

“Councillors are policymakers, while MPSepang staff are facilitators.

“The separation of duties will make the municipal council run smoothly,” he said.

A total of 22 new MPSepang councillors took their oaths of office and will serve until 2025.

They comprised one Orang Besar Daerah, eight from PKR, eight from DAP and five from Amanah.

Nine of them are new faces, comprising all five Amanah councillors, three from DAP and one from PKR. Two seats are still vacant.

Siti Noorhidayah Sahudinsaret from Amanah, who has been put in charge of Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi (Utara), said she would look into resolving issues about flash floods and road conditions.

“The roads in the area are quite bad due to the many heavy vehicles.”

Fellow Amanah member Ahmad Rozaidi Rozali said floods were also a big concern in Sungai Merab, an area under his jurisdiction.

“I will definitely look into this, besides going to the ground to find out people’s problems first hand,” he said.

Newly appointed DAP councillors Chong Voon Fei for Bandar Bukit Puchong and Cheong Wai Shon for Sungai Pelek also said they would do their best.
