U.S. stocks higher at close of trade; Dow Jones Industrial Average up 0.46%

Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Services and Financials sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.46%, while the S&P 500 index added 1.03%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 1.19%.

The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS), which rose 2.47% or 2.81 points to trade at 116.47 at the close. Meanwhile, International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) added 1.77% or 2.93 points to end at 168.64 and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) was up 1.69% or 6.88 points to 413.54 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN), which fell 3.79% or 11.81 points to trade at 299.48 at the close. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) declined 0.91% or 1.67 points to end at 181.71 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) was down 0.78% or 1.41 points to 178.38.

The top performers on the S&P 500 were Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI) which rose 6.09% to 830.35, American Airlines Group (NASDAQ:AAL) which was up 5.78% to settle at 14.65 and Quanta Services Inc (NYSE:PWR) which gained 5.11% to close at 269.44.

The worst performers were Tyson Foods Inc (NYSE:TSN) which was down 5.68% to 58.50 in late trade, Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) which lost 3.79% to settle at 299.48 and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) which was down 3.09% to 17.26 at the close.

The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Holdco Nuvo Group DG Ltd (NASDAQ:NUVO) which rose 157.35% to 5.25, XBP Europe Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:XBP) which was up 65.09% to settle at 3.50 and Plutonian Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:PLTN) which gained 57.07% to close at 9.55.

The worst performers were Lyra Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:LYRA) which was down 87.06% to 0.52 in late trade, GlycoMimetics Inc (NASDAQ:GLYC) which lost 82.76% to settle at 0.32 and Eyepoint Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:EYPT) which was down 43.26% to 11.20 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2187 to 677 and 62 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2035 rose and 1326 declined, while 127 ended unchanged.

Shares in Quanta Services Inc (NYSE:PWR) rose to all time highs; up 5.11% or 13.11 to 269.44. Shares in Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) fell to 5-year lows; falling 3.09% or 0.55 to 17.26. Shares in Holdco Nuvo Group DG Ltd (NASDAQ:NUVO) rose to all time lows; gaining 157.35% or 3.21 to 5.25. Shares in Lyra Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:LYRA) fell to 3-years lows; falling 87.06% or 3.51 to 0.52. Shares in GlycoMimetics Inc (NASDAQ:GLYC) fell to 5-year lows; losing 82.76% or 1.51 to 0.32.

The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was unchanged 0.00% to 13.49 a new 1-month low.

Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.09% or 25.15 to $2,333.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.61% or 0.48 to hit $78.59 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.54% or 0.45 to trade at $83.41 a barrel.

EUR/USD was unchanged 0.08% to 1.08, while USD/JPY rose 0.62% to 153.93.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 104.98.
