Lady Tamaraws not settling for a Final Four finish

MANILA, Philippines: The FEU Lady Tamaraws made their Final Four return following a gutsy 19-25, 25-19, 22-25, 25-20, 15-10 win over the UST Golden Tigresses in the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Saturday, April 13.

The Morayta-based team, which missed the semifinals the last two seasons, isn’t content in just making the Final Four, though.

They’re going to charge as hard as they can.

“It feels great because we’re trying to bring back the glory days of FEU. Now, we’re back in the Final Four. We’re happy but the job’s not done. We’re here already so we’re going to dream big.”

The Lady Tamaraws’ victory hiked their win-loss card to 7-4, good for fourth place as of posting time.

FEU joined UST (10-2), La Salle (9-1), NU (9-2), in the semis as it tries to contend for a top two finish which merits a twice-to-beat incentive.

“It feels like we’re on cloud nine because we waited for this for so long. We’re going to bank on our Be Brave mantra. We’re going to see how far we can go with it and we’re going to do our best.”

Jean Asis, who scored a good chunk of her total 16 points in the fifth set against UST, believes that the Lady Tamaraws have what it takes to compete against the other teams in NU and La Salle considering they’ve took down the league-leading Golden Tigresses, who reverse-swept them in the first round.

“Nothing is impossible. If we’re able to beat the top seed team, why can’t we beat the other teams? We just need to persevere, work hard, and trust ourselves and let things transpire as they should,” said Asis.

“We’re banking on our ‘Be Brave’ mantra. We know that we’re defiant that having our backs against the walls. We’re going to be brave until the end. We can’t be discouraged just because the opposition is deeper [in talent]. We should be braver instead.”
