The luck of the draw hasn’t been kind to the Raptors so far.
Toronto locked up the 19th pick in this year’s NBA Draft after tie-breaker draws determined the post-lottery order for teams that finished with the same record in the regular season, the NBA announced on Monday.
The draw determined where the pick the Raptors acquired from the Pacers would land, as Indiana finished with the same record as the Philadelphia 76ers, Los Angeles Lakers and Orlando Magic at 47-35 in the regular season.
Unfortunately for the Raptors, the Pacers lost the lottery, dropping them down to the 19th spot in the Draft. They could’ve gone as high as the 16th pick had the tie-breaker shaken out in their favour.
The pick they received from the Pacers was one acquired in the blockbuster trade for Pascal Siakam.
Toronto still has a chance at a top-six pick, with the lottery set to take place on May 12, 2024. They have 9.0 per cent chance at the first-overall pick, the sixth-best odds.
The tie-breaker draw on Monday also broke a stalemate between the Charlotte Hornets (21-61) and Portland Trail Blazers for the third-best lottery odds, with the Hornets coming out on top.
Here is the full list of the broken ties, per the NBA: – The Charlotte Hornets (21-61) won a tiebreaker with the Portland Trail Blazers.
– The Sacramento Kings (46-36) won a tiebreaker with the Golden State Warriors.
– The Philadelphia 76ers (47-35) won a tiebreaker with the Indiana Pacers, the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Orlando Magic. Second, third, and fourth place in the tiebreaker drawings went to the Los Angeles Lakers, Orlando, and Indiana, respectively.
– The Milwaukee Bucks (49-33) won a tiebreaker with the New Orleans Pelicans and the Phoenix Suns. Second and third place in the tiebreaker drawings went to Phoenix and New Orleans, respectively.
– The Dallas Mavericks (50-32) won a tiebreaker with the New York Knicks.
– The Denver Nuggets (57-25) won a tiebreaker with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
