Titanikin batmasıyla hayatını kaybeden dönemin en zengin kişilerinden biri olan John Jacob Astorın altın cep saati, İngiltere merkezli müzayede evi Henry Aldridge & Son tarafından Titanik ve Taşımacılık Hatıraları adlı koleksiyonun bir parçası olarak açık artırmada satışa sunuldu.

Altın saate, yaklaşık 190 bin dolar değer biçildi.

Öte yandan Titanikten kalma keman, cüzdan, bir çift kol düğmesi gibi çok sayıda hatıra da açık artırmada sahiplerini bulacak.

47 yaşındaki John Jacob Astor, dönemin ekonomik şartlarında 87 milyon dolar servetiyle dünyanın en zengin kişileri arasında yer almaktaydı.

Görgü tanıklarının ifadelerine göre, 14 Nisan 1912 tarihinde Titanikin buz dağına çarpmasıyla başlayan olaylarda Astorun, eşini kurtarma botuna bindirdiği ve sırasının gelmesini beklerken güvertede başka bir kişiyle sohbet ettiği görülmüştü.
