Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy overcome LIV Golf problem as TGL replacement for Jon Rahm confirmed
Ludvig Aberg has been announced as the latest PGA Tour star to join Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s innovative golf league, TGL. Aberg has emerged as one of golf’s most prominent rising stars over the past year, having moved into the top 10 of the Official World Golf Ranking despite only turning professional last June.
In the space off 11 months, the Swede has wins on both the PGA Tour and DP World Tour, and was also part of Europe’s winning Ryder Cup team in Rome last Autumn. He also impressed on his major championship debut in April, finishing second at the Masters behind Scottie Scheffler.
His next step is set to come via indoor golf, having committed to join the TGL setup, which will officially launch next January after previously postponing its 2024 season due to damage to its SoFi Center home in Florida.

Aberg will be apart of TGL’s newest franchise ‘The Bay Golf Club’, joining U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark, Min Woo Lee and Shane Lowry as part of the four-man team. The new franchise is ran by former Milwaukee Bucks owner Marc Lasry, with Golden State Warriors stars Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Andre Iguodala also involved.
“Avenue Sports Fund invested in The Bay Golf Club because we are excited to bring a new team and innovative game to the growing number of Golf fans regionally and nationally,” Lasry, chairman and CEO of Avenue Capital Group said. “We believe that The Bay Golf Club will be a beloved team in Northern California and beyond.
“We are looking forward to the launch of TGL in January 2025, and we are using this year to build excitement, energy, and passion for our team and the league.” The addition of Aberg is an important one for the league’s co-founders Woods and McIlroy, who lost the services of former Masters champion Jon Rahm last November.

Rahm announced he had made a U-turn on competing on the simulator-based circuit after his name disappeared from the league’s roster. “I am sad to confirm that I will not be participating in the first TGL season,” Rahm said in a tweet. “While I still think it’s a great opportunity, right now it would require a level of commitment that I can’t offer.
“Best of luck to everyone involved and may the best team win!” Just weeks later Rahm shocked the golfing world by signing a record-breaking deal with LIV Golf. In doing so he also signed Ryder Cup teammate Tyrrell Hatton to his Legion XIII team, another star who had committed to play season one of TGL before his name was removed from the league in February.
Following the signing of Aberg Woods and McIlroy will be on the look out to add one more PGA Tour star to complete their roster following the departure of Hatton. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is yet to sign with the innovative circuit, with the likes of Jordan Spieth and Viktor Hovland not yet included.
