Kiwi rugby star rinsed after all-time bombed try

Big winners in round one, the Brumbies have crashed back to Earth in Super Round with a 46-12 loss to the high octane Chiefs on Sunday.

The Brumbies were strangely never at the races at AAMI Park and it is back to the drawing board for Stephen Larkham and company as they reset to host the Force next weekend.

“We just didn’t turn up for some reason,” Brumbies prop James Slipper said on Stan Sport.

“That probably wasn’t up to our standard… if we keep producing that it’s not going to be great… we let ourselves down today.”

It could have been even worse for the Brumbies if not for one of the all-time bombed tries from Chiefs star Shaun Stevenson.

The fullback had a clean path to the try line in the second half but forgot to hang on to the ball under no pressure.

“Just shelled it. Too much butter on the toast this morning,” Joe Wheeler said on Stan Sport.

“He won’t live that down… the Chiefs boys, they love giving Shaun Stevenson a little bit of a ribbing, especially after a season like last year.”

The only dampener for the Chiefs was a late red card for reserve prop Jared Proffit for his nasty head on head collision with big Brumbies lock Cadeyrn Neville.

Conversely, the only real bright spot for the Brumbies was another sharp double to standout winger Corey Toole.

The Canberrans were unable to slow down the Chiefs ball and ringmaster Damian McKenzie had a field day.

“They just haven’t really fired a shot today,” Wheeler said of the Brumbies.
