Daniel Farke makes Leicester City admission over Leeds United's best season

Daniel Farke celebrates Leeds United’s win over Leicester City in November

Daniel Farke knows Leeds are enjoying a special season but even that is unlikely to be enough to topple Leicester City.

The Leeds boss watched his side dismantle Swansea 4-0 on Tuesday night for a seventh straight league victory. Coupled with Southampton’s loss at Bristol City, it means they now sit second in the table.

But despite their excellent form, they are still 12 points behind City. While not quite ceding to the Championship title to Enzo Maresca’s side, Farke admitted it’s “difficult” to see his finishing with the silverware that their points-per-game tally usually leads to.

“The win for us is important,” said Farke. “It’s just about us, it’s just about what we do and our points tally, our point average. I mentioned before, if you want to finish in a top position, you need a special amount of wins in the season. We are on a good path right now and if you want to finish in the top positions in the league, you need a special point average per game.

“We are also on a top path at the moment, even with a better point average than two. So this is quite, quite impressive. In the last 20 years, normally the point average of two was always enough to finish in position one.

“It will be difficult with Leicester during this season, but overall we are playing the best season, in terms of points, in the history of this club and that’s quite impressive. This is after really difficult years for lads, a difficult turnaround in the summer.”

The rematch between City and Leeds is just over a week away, with Maresca taking his side to Elland Road next Friday night. Leeds won the first meeting between the clubs back in November, Georginio Rutter’s second-half goal separating the sides.
