The Ukrainian team quickly opened the scoring. After two rotations of the second hand, Merezhko found himself alone in front of the goalkeeper and tapped in Vorona’s pass from behind the net. At the start of the final 20 minutes, Lyalka joined him, tipping in Kryvoschapkin’s pass from the left boards. Midway through the period, Deniskin added to China’s woes, scoring on a five-hole play after a scramble in front of the net. Towards the end of the match, Merezhko netted from a sharp angle during 4-on-4 play. Goalkeeper Zakharchenko capped off the victory for the Ukrainians with his second consecutive shutout.
