This Chic, Affordable Aussie Label Has Become My Go-To For Everyday Basics

If you’re an avid shopper like me, you’ll know that tracking down chic yet affordable basics isn’t as simple as it sounds. From designs that don’t last the distance to ones that seem perfect online, only to arrive at your door looking like completely different, it’s a trying task that often lends its way to a wardrobe full of things you never actually wear.

In recent years, I’ve transitioned to crafting the elusive capsule wardrobe—or, as one of my colleagues would call it, a ‘Nice Lady’ wardrobe. Basically, it’s a collection of the key pieces that are going to transcend seasons while offering a stylish edge. The only problem most of these finds have in common? They tend to veer towards the pricier side.

That’s why I’m singing the praises of a recent discovery of mine—a well-priced, locally-made label that has wedged in perfectly with those capsule pieces. I’m sure it needs no introduction, but enter: AERE.

The label is the brainchild of retail giant The Iconic, and was launched in 2019. It’s mission is to offer up effortless wardrobe essentials created with a considered approach to fabrications and designs, and that it does.

Aere’s linen, organic cotton and sustainable leather basics have become a go-to, with consistent designs that are pared-back yet polished enough to transcend trends and seasons (tick, tick, tick!).

Aere Review: Is Aere A Good Brand?

Here’s my two cents.

You’ll find me in a heavy rotation of the brand’s oversized linen jacket and matching straight leg linen trousers (if you’re looking for work appropriate pieces that aren’t going to fall apart at the seams when being worn daily, I’d seriously recommend), as well as the line-up of knits (okay guilty, I have multiple colours), which are soft, cosy and perfect for winter.

It was the label’s commitment to sustainability that kept me going back though (as well as the expertly crafted pieces). The brand plans to introduce organic cotton, hemp, recycled polyester and Tencel into the range, as well as given themselves a mission to have 90% of pieces designed with sustainable fibres by 2025.

“Since the launch, we’ve seen the Sydney-designed label develop a cult following amongst customers seeking quality, fashion-forward staples that deliver versatility and accessibility,” Jaida Azad, Head of Exclusive Brands at THE ICONIC tells ELLE.

“We also know that this customer is prioritising fabrications that hero sustainability credentials. This growing demand for more sustainably sourced products designed for transeasonal style and versatility, has seen AERE become one of our top-selling brands that feature as part of THE ICONIC Considered; our onsite edit that enables our customers to seamlessly filter and find products with sustainability credentials aligned to their personal values.”

Among the label’s most recognisable pieces are its cross back maxis and puff-sleeve tops, which became a cult must-have during the summer.

“When it comes to top-selling AERE styles, the label’s offering of linen smock and midi dresses have become a firm favourite amongst our customers after style staples that can be taken across occasions, whether that be in the home, work or into a night out,” says Azad.

Is Aere An Australian Label?
