Two people died while 14 were injured after a pickup truck fell into an ongoing canal construction project in General Santos City, according to a report of Jerwen Paglinawan over Super Radyo General Santos on Monday.
Based on the investigation of the Traffic Enforcement Unit (TEU) General Santos, the vehicle was passing through a diversion road in Barangay Apopong on Sunday afternoon when the driver fell asleep, causing the pickup truck to fall off into the canal.
The passengers and the driver, who were all relatives, were on their way home to Tampakan, South Cotabato from a birthday trip in a beach resort in Glan, Sarangani when the accident happened.
Two of the victims died while 14 were rushed to the hospital for medical treatment. The driver and an infant survived the mishap.
TEU-GenSan reminded motorists to ensure they are in good condition before driving. They also advised drivers to get adequate rest before they travel to avoid accidents.—Sundy Locus/RF, GMA Integrated News
