The trick features coming to Tesla Model 3, Model Y owners

The latest software updates for the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y electric vehicles (EVs) will bring a number of nifty features, but it’s not yet clear when they’ll all be available for Australian owners.

In a post on social media platform X – formerly known as Twitter – Tesla announced the imminent rollout of its North American Spring software update.

This includes a significant update for the infotainment systems in Tesla Model 3s and Model Ys fitted with an AMD computer chip (all 2022 and onwards model year examples).

Included in the update are full-screen vehicle controls when parked, larger media playback controls, quick access shortcuts and expandable Autopilot driving visualisations.

Owners of the facelifted Tesla Model 3 will now be able to open their sedan’s boot hands-free, which can unlatch when the owner stands still behind the boot with their Phone Key – though this feature has to be enabled through the car’s infotainment system.

Tesla has also enabled its Sentry Mode recordings to be previewed remotely on Apple iPhones, previously exclusive to computers physically plugged into the car’s USB port.

Sentry Mode records exterior activities when the car is locked and parked, acting not only as a deterrent to thieves but also as a way to gather evidence if the car is keyed or something is stolen within the camera’s line of vision.

It’s not clear whether this feature will be rolled out in Australia, as Tesla has only said it’ll be available in select countries for now.

Amazon’s Audible podcast application will also become available as a native media app, while Spotify queues can be synced across the Model 3 and Model Y with their owner’s other devices.

Rear-seat passengers in the updated Tesla Model 3 can also view current trip details, the time and temperature on the central rear touchscreen.
