It’s coming down to the final few games of the regular season to full lock-down playoff matchups, but Saturday night’s victory for the Dallas Stars solidified one post-season showdown in the West between the Winnipeg Jets and Colorado Avalanche.
The two teams are still battling for home-ice advantage, though. The Jets, though idle Sunday, could have clinched the advantage had the Avalanche lost to the Vegas Golden Knights in regulation. While Colorado blew a 3-0 lead in a 4-3 overtime loss, the Jets needed the Avalanche to drop both points, rather than just the one, to secure the No. 2 seed.
However, the Jets need just one point in their final two games to lock up home-ice advantage.
The Avalanche-Golden Knights result also means that the Nashville Predators will have to wait to lock in the first wild-card spot in the West.
In the Eastern Conference, the idle New York Rangers can clinch first place in the Metropolitan Division if the Carolina Hurricanes lose to the Chicago Blackhawks in regulation. The Rangers are three points ahead of the Hurricanes for the division title, but Carolina holds one game in hand.
Just four days remain in the regular season and 14 playoff berths have been clinched thus far.
