A few weeks ago, Subaru showed a teaser image of what could have been a higher performance version of the WRX. Dubbed the WRX S4 STI Sport#, it was slated to make its premiere at the Tokyo Auto Salon.
Now that the show is on the road, the higher-spec Subaru WRX has made its debut. The company has released full details of the car, along with its upgrades.

We’ll start with the bad news first. There was no mention of any additional goodies under the hood. That means it could still be using the standard version of the WRX. For reference, the standard model packs 271hp at and 350Nm of torque. It’s solid figures but we’ll admit we wish it was closer to 300hp.
That aside, Subaru did give it a beefier transmission cooler to help it cope with track use. The chassis also gets several tweaks in a bid for faster lap times. It includes an STI flexible draw tower bar and an STI flexible draw stiffener. Stickier Michelin tires are also thrown in the mix, along what what Subaru calls STI flexible performance wheels.

Subaru gave the WRX S4 STI Sport# a few aero and interior upgrades to differentiate it from the regular variants. Deeper Recaro bucket seats were added to the car, along with Ultrasuede trim around the cabin. Outside, there’s a small trunklid spoiler for enhanced aerodynamics, while the grille gets a unique pattern.
Sadly, the Subaru WRX S4 STI Sport# is exclusive to the Japanese Domestic Market. Even then, it will be a rare treat to see this car on the road if you’re over in Japan. That’s because only 500 units will be made and buyers have to try their luck through a lottery system.
