The Sharks Kept Winning The Draft Lottery Causing Multiple Redraws
The San Jose Sharks have won the 2024 NHL Draft Lottery and have the right to select projected No. 1 pick Macklin Celebrini.
While picking the ping pong ball combination, the Sharks kept winning each draw. The process usually occurs with two draws, the first for the No. 1 pick and a second for the No. 2 pick. The Sharks won three straight draws, leading to two redraws before the Chicago Blackhawks were awarded the second overall pick.
San Jose technically had 185 combinations for the No. 1 pick, 18.5%, but with teams only able to move up ten spots, if a team from the 12th to the 16th best odds, the Sharks would remain at the No. 1 pick.
The finalized draft order remained unchanged, and the top two teams won the lottery. This is the first time this has happened since 2010.
The draft will take place on June 28th and 29th at the Sphere in Las Vegas.
