Erik ten Hag reveals his half-time tactical tweak that helped Manchester United beat Brighton
Erik ten Hag has revealed the tactical switch he made at half-time helped Manchester United produce a match winning performance in the second half.
Manchester United finished the season on a winning note, beating Brighton 2-0. It took them 73 minutes to break the deadlock, with Diogo Dalot scoring the opener for the Red Devils, assisted by Rasmus Hojlund.
And Hojlund then went on to score a brilliant individual goal in the 88th minute to seal the win for United.
After the match, the Manchester United manager revealed what he did at half-time that changed the game.
Speaking to the press, he explained how he made some changes at half-time that helped them take more control of the ball.
He said (quotes via Manchester United official site):
“The first half, we were not 100 per cent in control. We have seen that. We had to face some chances from Brighton but, after half-time, when we changed something in our way of play, then we got more control. We were better defending, the organisation and pressing, and also kept the ball better and got movements in for the ball behind where, in the first half, it was too static.”
What did we change? We swapped our no.6s [Kobbie Mainoo and Sofyan Amrabat] from the side, left and right, that was important and also, in the right side, we had a lot of problems defending Joao Pedro in the first half. After half-time, we got in control and were better on the ball and had movements. You see with the first goal, we got movement in behind.”
Hojlund’s recent form is encouraging for Manchester United ahead of the FA Cup final against Manchester City, who won their fourth Premier League title in a row earlier today.
