The Pre-Market Rundown: April 16, 2024

Wall Street is set to open slightly lower after stocks gave up their gain yesterday to end in the red, the Dow falling for 6th straight. Session shares of Live Nation are under pressure following a Wall Street Journal report that the Justice Department could file an antitrust suit against the company as soon as next month. Live Nation, which owns Ticketmaster, has long faced complaints it has too much influence over live events. The Justice Department has been investigating the company’s practices for several years. The head of Google’s AI business says the company will spend more than $100 billion overtime to develop new technology. The CEO of Google DeepMind was asked at a Ted conference yesterday about a potential 100 billion supercomputer reportedly being developed by Microsoft and open AI. That’s the maker of ChatGPT. He says Google is spending a lot more than that and it has super superior computing power to rivals, including Microsoft. Meta’s Threads app has been described as a rival to X, but users have pointed out it isn’t a good source for real time information. But now Threads is testing a tool to let users filter search results by how recent they are. While sorting by recent posts isn’t the same as chronologically, it could help people find posts about breaking news or other timely topics. For CNBC Business News, I’m Pippa Stevens.
