- Toyota has announced it will recall 381,000 Tacomas from the 2022 and 2023 model years.
- The recall stems from a problem with welding debris on the rear axle causing retaining nuts to loosen and potentially fall off, creating a higher risk of a crash.
- Toyota dealers will analyze and retighten the retaining nuts for free, along with repairing or replacing damaged axle components as needed.
Toyota is issuing a recall of about 381,000 Tacoma pickup trucks from the 2022 and 2023 model years to fix a potential issue with the rear axle. The automaker said in a statement that leftover welding debris on the rear axle “could cause certain retaining nuts to loosen over time and eventually fall off,” which could hamper the truck’s stability and braking performance and increase the likelihood of a crash.
Toyota dealers will inspect trucks involved in the recall, retightening or replacing any loosened nuts for free. According to a statement by Toyota, dealers will also repair or replace any damaged axle components as needed.
2023 Toyota Tacoma
The automaker announced the recall today, so documents on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website aren’t available yet—but should be in the coming days.
According to Toyota, impacted truck owners will be notified by mail in April of this year. Once NHTSA publishes the recall on its website, anyone worried their 2022 or 2023 Tacoma may be included in the recall will be able to check the NHTSA recalls site or the Toyota owner website.
