With a need at the position ahead of the 2024 NFL draft, the Detroit Lions continue to do their homework on cornerbacks this week.
According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, the Lions are hosting cornerbacks Caelen Carson (Wake Forest) and Nehemiah Pritchett (Auburn) on visits Thursday.
The Lions have already compiled quite the list of visits with cornerback prospects. Alabama’s Terrion Arnold and Kool-Aid McKinstry, Michigan’s Mike Sanristil and the Toronto Argonauts’ Qwan’tez Stiggers have all visited.
In addition, Ennis Rakestraw Jr. out of Missouri and Dru Phillips out of Kentucky reportedly have or are slated to have visits with the Lions.
Detroit has made a pair of significant moves at the position this offseason, with the signing of Amik Robertson and the trade for Carlton Davis. Also, the Lions brought back Emmanuel Moseley, who is coming off a torn ACL.
But they also released Cameron Sutton, and Robertson and Moseley are not sure things for the role opposite Davis. And, speaking of Davis, he’ll hit free agency in 2025 if he isn’t extended.
The Lions don’t figure to be in range for the top-two players at the position in this year’s class — Arnold and Toledo’s Quinyon Mitchell — but they do stand a chance of landing any of the other aforementioned cornerbacks, whether that be at No. 29 overall or on Day 2.
