Temperatures to hit 21C on Monday but sun could be interrupted by rain

Temperatures are set to soar above 20C this Bank holiday as the weekend turns into a scorcher.
Monday is expected to bring a mix of rain and sunny spells, with temperatures expected to reach highs of 21C.
London is expected to reach an average of 15C and will remain cloudy with outbreaks of rain but in the sun, the temperature is likely to only hit the high teens.
But East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire will see the warmest spells in the country with highs of 20C and 21C.
The North will have a cloudy start to the day with some brighter spells and heavy showers developing.

The South will start with sunny spells before heavy showers and thunderstorms move in through the afternoon.
Greg Dewhurst, a meteorologist at the Met Office, said: ‘Overall, it will be a mix of sunny spells and showers across the country.
‘Anywhere could catch some rain so people should be prepared for that.
‘For people looking to get away, there will be some sunshine and warm spells. And if you manage to avoid showers, then it will be nice in the sun.’

While there is some uncertainty around the weather and outbreaks of rain are forecast to interrupt the sunny spells, most places should remain dry.

The warmer days will continue into Tuesday as most people return to work.
The week leading up to the bank holiday weekend saw the UK hit with thunderstorms and heavy rainfall, while also experiencing its hottest days of the year so far on Wednesday and Thursday.
On Wednesday night, the Met Office recorded 4,840 lightning strikes across France and southern Britain.
The following day was the warmest of the year so far for all four home nations, according to the Met Office.
A peak temperature of 23.4C was recorded in Santon Downham in Suffolk, while in Scotland, the mercury hit 22.1C in Kinlochewe and Achnagart in the north Highlands.
