Australia’s eSafety Commissioner has issued six social media and messaging companies with legal notices.
Commissioner Julie Inman Grant has asked the organisations to produce evidence on how they intend to tackle extremist content on their platforms.
The legal move is a similar one to a 2023 process which asked the social media services to display acceptable levels of censoring child abuse material.
The Australian is reporting messaging app Telegram has been identified as the most problematic platform.
