MS Dhoni might have turned the clock back with a stunning batting cameo during the ‘El Clasico’ of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, but it emerged that he is playing the tournament with pain as he was spotted limping during and after the game.

For those unversed, the 42-year-old underwent knee surgery a few days after the 2023 IPL final with the eye of making a comeback to the 2024 edition, despite many speculating that he would bid adieu to the sport after leading CSK to a record-equalling fifth IPL title.

On Sunday (April 14); Dhoni walked out to bat with four balls left in CSK’s innings and produced a batting display that will live long in the memory of cricket fans. The ex-CSK captain became the first Indian player in IPL history to hit three sixes in the first three balls of his innings with a knock of 20 runs in four balls.

Suresh Raina Helps Limping MS Dhoni

In visuals that have gone viral on social media, Dhoni was in visible pain after the match finished, and the team walked towards the team bus away outside the Wankhede Stadium. While approaching the exit game, Suresh Raina came to the aid of his former captain and held his hand to help him climb down from the staircase.

Raina and Dhoni share a close bond, having been teammates for the national team and CSK for more than a decade. Raina and Dhoni were part of the CSK camp since the inaugural season in 2008 and played together till 2021 while winning four IPL titles. The cricketer-turned-commentator was also part of the Dhoni-led Indian team that won the 2011 World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy.
