Yniguez will redshirt for one year starting this January and will be eligible to play in the UAAP men’s basketball tournament come Season 88 next year.

“We’re looking forward to the contributions Miguel can give us. Ever since, we knew that he would be a big help for our team so it’s good that we finally have him on board,” said UP head coach Goldwin Monteverde.

Yniguez actually already suited up for one game for UP in the 2023 Pinoyliga Collegiate Cup in July last year to get a good sense of the team. Fast forward to now and his transfer has been made official during the MBT’s U.S. trip led by Monteverde and UP Office for Athletics and Sports Development Director Bo Perasol.

Reacting to the development, Yniguez said on his social media post:

“I am beyond blessed to announce that I am committing to the University of the Philippines. To everyone who has helped me continue my journey, maraming-maraming salamat po (thank you so much)!”
